FAISA HISTORY
June 1977 FASA went from three departments (superintendents, elementary principals and secondary principals) to five, adding the Florida Association of Instructional Supervisors and Administrators (FAISA) and Florida Support Administrators Association (FSAA). November 1977 The Association of General Supervisors was accepted as an affiliate division of the Department of Instructional Supervisors and Administrators. Spring 1979 Florida Association of Reading Supervisors requested affiliation with FAISA. *June 1979 Supervisors of Physical Education requested to affiliation with FAISA. *August 17, 1979 The Communicator reported that FAISA membership was 367. January 4, 1985 Cliff Bloodsworth wrote Joe Marineli that the Florida Association of Vocational Supervisors and Administrators (FAVSA) was formed and requested affiliation with FAISA. January 21-23, 1985 At the FAISA Board Meeting, the following groups were seeking affiliation with FAISA: Test Directors, Alternative School Administrators, Early Childhood Administrators. January 21-23, 1985 FAISA cosponsored DOE’s Division of Public Schools’ Educational Curriculum Conference in Orlando. February 4, 1985 John Hilderbrand sent Joe Marineli the By Laws of the Florida Association of Test Administrators indicating their affiliation with FAISA/FASA. February 21-22, 1985 At the FASA Board meeting, the following groups were approved for affiliation with FAISA:
Florida Association of Test Directors Florida Association of Vocational Supervisors March 15, 1985 John Gaines notified the Florida Association of Test Administrators that they were a division of FAISA. March 15, 1985 John Gaines welcomed the Florida Association of Vocational Supervisors as an affiliate of FAISA. January 27-29, 1986 DOE/FAISA/FCEE cosponsored the 1986 Public Schools Conference at the Sheraton-Twin Towers, Orlando. January 1996 FAISA had 17 affiliated divisions. An Awards Committee was established. A Professional Development Committee was established to identify issues for study or for a commissioned study. May 7, 1986 Letter to Joe Marineli from Clinton Rouse, Executive Director of the Florida Association of Social Studies, notifying that the FASS Board approved affiliation with FASA. January 18, 1987 AISA Board began making rebates two times a year ( January and July). January 18-21, 1987 DOE/FAISA cosponsored the Public Schools Instructional Conference at the Daytona Beach Convention Center. Attendance was reported to be more than 900. 1987-88 FAISA Officers

November 1988 DOE/FAISA cosponsored the 1988 Public Schools Instructional Conference held at the Hotel InterContinental, Miami. April 4, 1989 Florida Association of Exceptional School Administrators wrote John Gaines requesting affiliation with FASA. July 31, 1989 The Florida Association of Exceptional School Administrators resubmitted their request for affiliation with FAISA. March 11, 1997 FAISA Board agrees to have Wendy Cullar provide staff work to support the increase in affiliates and membership and joint activities with DOE. (Agreement for April 1, 1997-March 31, 1998). FAISA and FASA each provided 50% of the cost. February 10-12, 1998 DOE/FAISA/FASA sponsored the 1998 Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Conference at the Hilton in St. Petersburg. Attendance was about 400. March 24, 1998 Florida Foreign Language Association was approved as a division of FAISA. March 1998 FASA assumed full cost of consultant contract with Wendy Cullar to support FAISA activities. May 1998 Published FAISA brochure for membership recruitment. Printed 2500 copies. June 1998 FAISA exhibited their new booth at the FASA Summer Conference. November 1998 FAISA launched its website: www.floridaeducation.com/faisa. Later in the year the address was changed to www.fasa.net/faisa. Two newslists were established: faisanews and dilnews. January 1999 Reprinted FAISA brochure for membership recruitment. January 12-14, 1999 DOE/FAISA Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment (CIA) Leadership Conference was held at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine. Over 700 district and school staff, district best practices exhibitors, and vendors participated in the 1999 DOE/FAISA Leadership Conference. Highlights included keynote speaker Will Daggett, musical presentations from the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, St. Johns County Schools, and a lunch conversation with Commissioner Gallagher. FAISA President Donna Skibo and FASA President-Elect Sandi Bisceglia welcomed the group.
