MESSAGE FROM FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, JIM WARFORD
Originally published Friday, April 3, 2009.
In reality, this budget contains significant cuts because of how it's calculated. For example, major categoricals such as transportation, instructional materials, Supplemental Academic Instruction and reading allocation, and safe schools are now included in the FEFP base student allocation.
Even worse, the "Conforming Language" of the Senate budget has a number of very bad ideas... For example, this budget would put all school administrators on a 10 month contract, set salary limits for some, cut salaries for others, and even prohibit districts from paying for cell phones and other wireless devices. FASA opposes these ideas and we will keep you informed about them. To see the Senate's budget proposal and conforming language in full. Go to www.fasa.net click the "Political Action Link" and it is at the top of the page.
Behind FASA's Political Action link on our home page, you will find information about all important educational issues in the legislature as it becomes available. So stay tuned and stay informed. This session is far from over.
Have a great day!
Jim Warford
