MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome!  I am extremely honored and excited to be President of the Florida Association of Secondary School Principals for the 2008-2009 term.  Knowing the challenges that each of us face as Secondary Principals, we, as a group, are in the best position to address the issues and navigate the obstacles as we further the effectiveness of our schools.

We are very privileged to have some of the very best Principals in our State as part of the FASSP Board.  Additionally, as a part of the Florida Association of School Administrators we will benefit from the insights of President Fran Giblin of West Boca Raton High School and the extraordinary leadership of FASA’s Executive Director Jim Warford.  Through their guidance and expertise and with our hard work, we will have our best opportunity to enhance our profession in the most positive manner.

Our goals this year will be to further FASA’s Strategic Plan, present a unified effort in addressing the severe funding crisis for which we are all facing, develop a legislative platform that speaks to the issues of helping students, teachers, staff and administrators, advance the cause of public education with our local, state and national representatives so that we will have as strong of voice possible in the legislative process, and be an effective participant with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

The Mission of FASA is to support administrators in providing high quality education to the students of Florida through advocacy, leadership and professional development.  As part of FASA this is our mission as well.  However, we will only be as successful as the amount of time and effort that each of us is willing to put into fulfilling this mission.  Individually we can move forward minimally, but collectively we can achieve a great deal.

Once again, welcome and I look forward to your active involvement.

Boyd E. Karns, Jr.
